Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh:
Senior journalist and social worker Sadachari Lala Umesh Chandra Srivastava has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath via a tweet, requesting that the state government provide a monthly financial aid of ₹18,000 to priests, granthis, and mosque imams, similar to the initiative in Delhi. He believes that this measure would not only empower religious leaders economically but also foster communal harmony and social cohesion in the state.
Appreciation for Delhi’s Initiative
Srivastava praised the Delhi government’s “Pujari and Granthi Honor Scheme,” calling it a symbol of respect for religious leaders. He urged the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to implement a similar scheme in the state to enhance the living standards and honor of religious leaders.
Inspiration from Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb
Referring to the cultural heritage of Barabanki’s Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, Srivastava remarked, “Such a scheme in Uttar Pradesh could benefit religious leaders from all communities—Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian alike. This initiative would not only provide financial assistance to religious leaders but also send a strong message of unity and brotherhood in society.”
Need for Positive Social Change
In his appeal, Srivastava emphasized the importance of transcending caste and religious biases to promote such schemes, which can strengthen religious unity and harmony. He believes this initiative would bring about a positive change in society and enhance Uttar Pradesh’s reputation as a culturally rich and diverse state.
A Call for Swift Action
Srivastava urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to consider this proposal without delay. He expressed confidence that this step would bolster religious unity and social harmony, further enriching the cultural legacy of Uttar Pradesh.
It remains to be seen how Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responds to this appeal and whether Uttar Pradesh takes steps to implement similar schemes in the future.
